While at SANDAG I was responsible for the operations, maintenance, and planning for more than 700 bike locker spaces at transit stations throughout San Diego including new lockers located along the UC San Diego Blue Line trolley extension.
While at SANDAG I was responsible for the planning and execution of one of the largest Bike to Work Day events in the country. Community organizations applied to be one of the 100 official pit stops. Each chosen pit stop received a supply of items to give to pit stop visitors on their bikes. Those items include the official t-shirt and items from sponsors RX Bar, Suja Juice, Chipotle and GoGoSqueeze.
During my time at the San Diego Association of Governments, I was responsible for creating a new and revised bike map every 2-3 years. With more than 2,000 bike lane miles across the region and working with 18 jurisdictions it was an effort that relied on collaboration and relationships in order to get this out in time for Bike to Work Day.
While at SANDAG, I managed the annual mini grant program. Local jurisdictions, non-profits and community based organizations applied for $3,000 grants to hold an event or activity to promote biking as an everyday transportation choice. Each year we gave out $60,000 in mini grants. This program helped us worked with local communities to leverage our reach and create events in cities across the region.
Our TDM team worked with employers and schools to schedule presentations on bike safety to be sure everyone is ready for their first trip on a bike or their 100th trip. We worked with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to offer bike tune ups, bike safety 101 class for beginners, a bike safety 202 class for more experienced bikers, and group rides. We also can provided bike rodeos for schools so kids can learn how to ride and navigate in a safe and fun environment.
